Mjesec knjige/The book month

Draghi Nashi,

A tamo popusti. 5%, 15%, 20%. “Kupi me, kupi me, kupi me!” vikale su knjige i potrošač u nama ni moga odolit.
Adrian Mole

We really enjoy books but we are very careful when it comes to buying books. Because we’re planning to move few more times and everybody knows that books are heavy. But this months we got a bit wild and suddenly we got half a meter of new books in our library.
It started at the beginning of this month when we entered a bookstore while waiting for somebody. And there were discounts. 5%, 15%, 20%. “Buy me, buy me, buy me” the books were shouting at us and our inner consumer couldn't resist to the . The saying says one shouldn't judge the books by the covers but we did exactly that and bought new Adrian Mole book (Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction) just because we liked the retro design of the covers. OK, that and because we like Adrian Mole in our teenage years so we wanted to see what's up with him.

Romeo and Juliette
Then one day, on our lunch break, we passed by a man that was selling books on the sidewalk. Since we needed to break 100 kunas, Romeo and Juliette at 15 kunas seemed like a perfect solutions.

I dobili.

And then we got a package from the States. We were excited because that were the books we bought on eBay. Last month we decided to enter the world of eBay and offered 16$ for 13 books. And won. Well, the postage costs much more then 16$ but it was a bargain anyway. All the books are by Alexander McCall Smith that writes nice, old-fashioned stories with delicate humour that we recommend to everybody as an escapistic refuge. The books are in excellent conditions and our friends can expect some of those as a present for birthday, new year, etc.

Than came Interliber, a book fair. Saturday morning was so crowded that we couldn’t wait to leave and go for a coffee but we did manage to buy two books. One is a book of poems by a Croatian singer/songwriter, and the other is European Literature and the Latin Middle Ages by R. E. Curtius that we had to read for an university exam. We always like to buy the book that were mandatory literature for the exams, somehow we have a feeling they will instantly restore the former knowledge, although, most probably, we’ll just flip through them.

Then we went to the library and finally found a novel we’re been listening about for a long time. (It is an awarded novel by the Croatian author Robert Perišić.) We were waiting for it for a while now and we didn’t want to buy it for the reasons stated at the beginning of this post. Hopefully, it will furfill our expectations, although we’re not sure when are we going to read it considering the quantity of the books at the To read section.

At the library doors there were some boxex full of books and an old men were going through them. “How much are these booka” we asked the librarian. “They are for free, just take them.” we were told. So we came back with the high school philosophy text book (another one of the books we hope that will restore our former intelligence by sheer existence in our proximity), Bernice Bobs Her Hair by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dangling Man by S. Bellow.

Ovo je cili ulov.
lot
This is the whole lot.

Kako i vidite, ovi misec smo ulagali u znanje.

As you can see, this month we invested into the knowledge. Nevertheless, we thought about important things too – the winter is coming and we have to get ready. And what is better then the 100% wool knitted into o beautifull black dress?

Stojte dobro,
Vashi
